Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II

I was worried about bulky lighting setups, but this ring flash is surprisingly compact and fits perfectly on my macro lens. The guide number 14 gives just enough power for close-up insect shots without overwhelming the subject.

The controls are intuitive even in the field, and the included modeling lights really help me preview shadow placement. This ring flash delivers perfectly even illumination for my close-up insect shots.

The dual flash tubes give such even light on tiny subjects that I barely touch the exposure in post anymore. Runs on four AAs, which is handy since I already carry spares for my other gear. Recycling is quick enough that I don't miss shots between focus stacks.
