Was worried about the weight of a 600mm prime, but this one is surprisingly easy to handhold thanks to the compact build. Got some sharp bird shots even with the teleconverter attached, and the autofocus tracking locked onto a fast-moving squirrel without hesitation.

I’ve been using this combo for bird photography and the 600mm reach with the 1.4x teleconverter is incredible—the autofocus locks on even in tricky backlight. The lens is noticeably lighter than I expected, which makes handheld shooting much more manageable during long sessions.

Even at f6.3 in overcast light, the sharpness wide open is stunning on my α7 IV, and the built-in OSS makes handheld birding surprisingly doable. The 1.4x teleconverter adds flexible reach without noticeably slowing the focus, and the whole setup still balances nicely.
