The image stabilization is a lifesaver when I'm shooting handheld in low light forests, and it locks on to birds fast even at 800mm. Super sharp results from a zoom with this much reach.

The 800mm reach on this lens is ridiculous, I finally got frame-filling shots of a heron without scaring it off. It's heavier than my old zoom but the stabilisation makes handheld shooting actually possible.

Took this to a wetland at dawn and the reach at 800mm let me fill the frame with a heron from across the pond. The IS really holds steady handheld, though it gets front-heavy after an hour of walking. Autofocus tracked birds in flight better than I expected at f9.
